One day before what would be the original release date for The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog presented a new episode of their "Inside The Last of Us Part II" series, this time talking about the details from the game.
Once again, Neil Druckmann along with other members from the crew commented about how important it is for Naughty Dog to fill the game with as much realism as possible. For starters, even the plot of the game itself, needed to feel authentic and thus, Neil mentions he has read a lot of books about retribution and justice, watching news and reading articles about the subject. He talks about how the actors can contribute to the characters and the company allows them to get involved with the way the story is built so Joel, Ellie and the others still feel like themselves, since sometimes actors can bring new nuances and points of view about them. Joining both things together makes sure all of the characters won't act in a way they normally wouldn't.
More about storytelling is that NPCs now will feel much more like real people. They'll call each other by their names and have conversations, which the player can even use to know how to strategize better.
When it comes to animation and world building, Druckmann mentions many tiny details Naughty Dog included this time, such as how veins can pop up when a character is angry or going through a physical struggle, or their eyes can go red and tears flow down their faces. There's also much more detail in architecture and environment, and the team has studied as much as possible about different parts from the country to achieve the best result they could.
